Keeping Your Companions Well

They say the best way to treat an illness is to prevent it. This rings true for people and for their pets. Mille Lacs Veterinary Group takes a proactive approach to pet wellness so that our patients can live long, happy, healthy lives. After all, isn’t that what every loving pet owner wants? We offer various preventive wellness services to keep your pet healthy through every life stage, including exams, vaccinations, and parasite control.

About Your Pet’s Wellness Exam

The comprehensive wellness exam is one of the most common reasons for a veterinary visit, whether you choose our Milaca, Foley, or Becker location. Typically, we recommend that pets have a wellness exam at least once a year, but we may recommend more frequent visits for senior pets. Every exam involves a nose-to-tail assessment, including a weight check. If we find any areas of concern, whether it’s weight gain, dental disease, itchy skin or other problems, we can discuss our recommendations for treatment and/or additional testing (blood work, X-rays, etc.). We’ll also discuss our recommendations for parasite control, vaccinations and routine testing to help keep you pet comfortable and healthy.

Please feel free to let us know of any concerns you have about your pet during these visits. Perhaps Max hasn’t had a big appetite in a while, or Fido has been lethargic and hiding more often. No one knows your companion better than you do, so if there are any physical or behavioral changes you’ve noticed, we want to know about them.

Protect Your Pet with Vaccines

Pet vaccines work the same way that human vaccines do. They help strengthen the immune system’s ability to fight off bacteria and viruses that cause diseases, which is why they’re so important for your pet’s overall wellness. We offer both core vaccinations (recommended for all patients) and non-core vaccinations (recommended based on individual risk) and therefore customize our recommendations to meet your pet’s specific needs. Vaccinations offered include:

Canine

  • Rabies virus (core)
  • Parvovirus (core)
  • Distemper (core)
  • Parainfluenza (core)
  • Adenovirus (core)
  • Leptosporosis (non-core)
  • Lyme (non-core)
  • Bordetella (non-core)

Feline

  • Rabies virus (core)
  • Panleukopenia (core)
  • Rhinotracheitis (core)
  • Calicivirus (core)
  • Feline leukemia (non-core)

To be effective, vaccines need to be updated on a regular basis. We’ll provide you with a recommended vaccination schedule during your pet’s wellness visit.
